Sick Boy Soldier

  • This song is about Remington, and his current self reflecting on his past self, before the revolution.
  • ‘Slept soundly through the darkness’ – shows that past Remington was complicit with Lieseil/Warhol’s control. In the HOTY cipher, one of the lines decodes to ‘Wake up! Before you sleep through life’ – this could be a direct link. The revolution also takes place at night/in the darkness, so this was clearly before the revolution, where nobody dared to go out at night, and instead stayed complicit to Lieseil and Warhol.
  • ‘People remember him kindly when no one remembers his name’ – Remington had not yet gained a reputation of being Lieseil’s enemy/patient.
  • ‘The ships and sails are gone, this place is falling down’ – direct reference to one of the graphic novel previews. In the prologue, the Bastards are seen stumbling upon wreckage of an abandoned fleet.
  • ‘And Mother can’t sleep at night’ – the word ‘Mother’ is capitalised, which could mean that the song is talking about an authority figure, and not their actual mom. They may be talking about Mrs Infamous (since she pushes Remington to continue the revolution and do what’s right), however she isn’t seen as a mother, rather a friend/saviour.
