Rag Doll

  • This song describes Palaye being dragged by Lieseil to the mental estate, and their feelings of hopelessness and surrender (similar to Too Many People and Doom), as suggested in the title. They feel like a puppet to Lieseil and Warhol’s obsessive control.
  • It also has many lyrical similarities to Little Bastards (full list linked below).
  • At the start of the song, you can hear a door creaking. This may be the door to the mental estate, or the Teenage Doors of Heartbreak that Mrs Infamous walked out of in Ma Cherie.
  • ‘The end is now’ – Similar to the title, the first verse (especially this line) conveys feelings of hopelessness and feeling trapped.
  • ‘Watching the world slowly drown’ – Links to Little Bastards and TITNID; because Palaye are not there to continue the revolution, they are watching people being brainwashed back to their original selves. Lieseil and Warhol’s water (mental estate/control) is stifling Palaye’s fire (the revolution).
  • ‘I’m sitting in my teacup spinning’ – Tea is an antidote to the red drink, however in this lyric, the teacup is most likely empty. This implies that Lieseil and Warhol found out about the antidote, took it from Palaye and instead gave them the red drink, leaving them dizzy and confused.
  • ‘Why not burn it down’ – Connects to Get Higher/Masochist. This suggests that there is still hope for the revolution.
  • ‘Flowers on the cop cars’ – During wartimes, putting flowers on cannons/weapons was a symbolism of trying to make peace. Since flowers are a possible antidote to anhedonia, this may be Palaye trying to make amends with Lieseil out of desperation, in hopes that he will release them from the estate.
  • ‘We sail on the ocean and the seven seas’ – Referencing the ship to Obsidian, and Palaye’s desire to be back on the ship, on their way to Obsidian, leaving Wismont and the mental estate behind.
  • ‘Secret place’ – Bastards manor (connects to Little Bastards MV) – more in our tweet linked below.
  • ‘I’m floating away’ – Similar to Love the Void, Palaye feel hopeless and overcome by obstacles. These obstacles surround them, to the point where they feel there is no way out, and the revolution sounds like a distant dream that they are slipping away from.
  • ‘Lost in the mental estate, they say I’m okay’ / ‘I’m waiting on your God now’ – Direct reference to Lieseil’s manipulative tactics in the estate. As shown in the tweet below, Lieseil convinces Palaye that he is a God-like saviour, which ties in to our tarot card theory about Lieseil (and Warhol) being ‘Gods among men’.
  • ‘Through the doorways, through the pathways’ – Describes the journey of arriving at the mental estate, and the moments where Palaye begin to feel completely hopeless.
