Get Higher

  • This song is from Palaye’s perspective, years after their visit to the mental estate. They are talking to the revolution about their experiences there, before burning it down, causing Lieseil and Warhol to fall from grace. From this, we can conclude that this song takes place in 1881 – the end of Lieseil and Warhol’s reign.
  • ‘I woke up to the sound of a man who’s always been, but never been around’ / ‘Saw the payphones ringing, so I answered the sound’ – These lyrics connect to the phone in the MV, where Lieseil is on the other end. The ‘man who’s always been’ refers to Lieseil’s omnipotence among the Obsidian Empire, and how he has manipulated the citizens on the island, so everyone is conditioned to believe the same morals as him. ‘Never been around’ may be referring to Palaye’s childhood (and their dad’s absence during it), or it could be referring to Lieseil in the mental estate, and how he doesn’t administer drugs in front of them, instead using a control panel (as seen in the FWMH MV) to administer the drugs (mainly anhedonia) without going near Palaye’s cells.
  • ‘I’m never going to change’ – Shows Palaye’s determination to keep the revolution alive.
  • ‘Haven’t been here in years’ – Connects to our theory about the storyline moving backwards. Palaye are reflecting on their time in the mental estate, and are telling the revolution about their past experiences.
  • ‘I’m going to set this house on fire’ – Similar to Masochist, Palaye are using fire as a way of spiritual cleanse, and are burning down the mental estate as a way of getting rid of their toxic memories. In our theory about water, Palaye and Lieseil/Warhol are dual opposites – Palaye representing fire, while Lieseil and Warhol represent water.
  • ‘I’m locking the door as you fall to the ground’ – Lieseil and Warhol have finally fallen from power, and Palaye lock the doors of the burning mental estate, leaving Lieseil and Warhol to burn (to death).
  • ‘The sun is shining, I’m on fire’ – Morning Light reference, and also Palaye are reflecting on how they can show their true selves – when they are ‘on fire’, they are releasing their emotional burdens, while cleaning themselves as such in order for them to move on.
  • ‘I walk the streets, I hear no sounds’ – Representative of Palaye’s freedom from Lieseil and Warhol, and how their omnipotence is no longer looming over the island, since they have fallen.
