The Underground

*Where the revolution against Lieseil Inc. begins, both metaphorically and literally.

*This setting is obviously connected to Palaye Royale’s song ‘The Underground’, which speaks on the revolution as it unfolds.

*The Underground is where The Bastards hide their revolution. In the Little Bastards music video, we see Emerson retrieve gas masks, the protection against the toxic gas/rats, from the literal underground.

*It later expands metaphorically to contain citizens of Obsidian Island that are also fighting against the powers of Lieseil Inc. and Warhol Stars.

*The people in the underground can only come to the surface when the sun has set and try to hide in the darkness. This is because otherwise Lieseil will find them and destroy the underground revolution/brainwash the citizens.

*’From the Watergates to the break of dawn’ – implies that they are doing something (possibly preparing for their revolution, or simply being outside) until the sun rises.

*’Every time I see your face at night, moving slowly through the wanted lights’ – this person sees another person but only at night, whilst they are lit by the streetlights. This is possibly one of the unnamed female characters mentioned in ‘Ma Cherie’.

*’Shoot us down with all the lies, crawl on your knees you must survive’ – to survive from Lieseil you must ‘crawl on the ground’ – aka get as close to the underground as possible to get out of Lieseil’s sight.

*’We fight for peace until the burnt out sun’ – they fight for the revolution until the sun rises again (during the night).

*’I know I’m in the underground, we, the youth are on floating doors’.

*’And we’re under you, under you’ – possible link to them being underground.

*’Slept soundly through the darkness, and whistled to the night’.

*’Time is ticking, the sun is going down’.

*’The sun is shining, I’m on fire’.

*’Oh, we live in the dark days’.

*’I feel like I’m six feet underground’.

*’And mother can’t sleep at night’.

*’But you hide away in your secret place’ – could be the underground.

*The fact that they only go to the surface at night could link to the name ‘Moon child’ which is mentioned throughout Palaye’s song lyrics and Emerson’s art. It is a nickname given to those children who only see the world under the moonlight (at night).

*In the song ‘The Underground’, it mentions the ‘wild moon child’, multiple times. This is a possible link between the underground and the moon children.

*It is likely that the Palaye boys considered themselves moon children too, which links with the idea of them leading the underground revolution.

*’When you were just a wild moon child
Found myself trapped inside the wild
Lost boy with nature eyes
Looking for a reason to survive’

*Palaye often refer to themselves as ‘the lost boys’.

*There was a Twitter post of a picture of Emerson in 2013, with the caption ‘Wild Moon Child’.

*Emerson often references ‘moon child’ in his artwork (possibly linked to a new page under his art with moon child references).

*’Nature Boys’ are also mentioned frequently, often alongside ‘Moon Child’. It’s almost certain that they are the same, or at least similar.

*Nature boys = the wild ones = the wild moon children.

*’Your moon child goes away, sunshine light those graves’ – Obsidian Island being freed from Lieseil/Warhol – no more moon children having to hide in the darkness away from Lieseil.

*’When the moon hits the sun, it’s becoming undone. Little vices behind the all-seeing eye’ – the all-seeing eye is Lieseil. When the moon children go into the sun, Lieseil takes them and therefore means the revolution slowly becomes undone.

*’And I’m dancing with the wild ones, wake up children and let it be’.

*’I want to get lost in the morning sun, I tried to get lost with the wild ones’.

*’Drop dead in your bedroom, moon child won’t see another day.’

*’Wicked things in wicked walls’.
